Alliant Energy is again running Operation ReLeaf to help customers save energy with the assistance of trees. During the summer months trees provide shade to cut down on cooling costs and in the winter they are wind breaks, causing the less heating needs. It’s recommended that for maximum energy efficiency, shade trees should be planted within 30 feet of the east and west sides of homes and evergreens should be planted as a windbreak on the north and west side. Alliant Energy customers can purchase up to two trees for $25 each. The tree’s average retail cost is $65. It’s recommended that they be purchased in advance. Upcoming events are being held in Iowa and Henry Counties, for details
