waco-2

It’s been a fun few weeks for the WACO basketball teams to start the season and the trend continued last night when they picked up a pair of Southeast Iowa Super Conference wins hosting Van Buren for a doubleheader.

The Warrior girls had a four quarter grind against VBC (1-6, 0-1) with a slight 22-17 lead at the break. The five point advantage stayed true heading into the fourth where WACO made enough plays down the stretch to prevail 45-37. Ellah Kissell continued her tear with a 28 point outing including a trio of threes. Grace Coble added eight points. The fifth straight Warrior win moves them to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the SEISC.

The Warrior boys cranked up the defense right from the start to race out to a 19-4 lead after one and 41-9 advantage at the break. Plenty of players got experience in the second half with the home team closing it out 64-28 over Van Buren (1-5, 1-4). A total of 11 players scored led by Mason Miller’s 15 points. Hunter Hughes was also in double figures with 10. WACO is now 5-1 overall, 3-1 in the league, and riding a four game win streak.

The blue and white get back on the court Friday at West Burlington.
