Iowans 12 to 15 years old can now get vaccinated against COVID-19, following the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Emergency Use Authorization approval and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation endorsing the safety and effectiveness of the Pfizer vaccine.

The Iowa Department of Public Health urges families to vaccinate their children in this age group as this is a critical step forward for the vaccine campaign in the state. The department estimates there are 167,000 Iowans in this age group. Families should contact their health care provider, local public health department or pharmacy to schedule an appointment. The Washington and Mount Pleasant Hy-Vees both have the Pfizer vaccine, and the Washington Hy-Vee is available to give the vaccine anytime the pharmacy is open. Their hours are 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday, Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information on what vaccines are available near you, visit here.
