At the October 18th Washington City Council meeting, the council untabled a piece of old business for a discussion and consideration of a resolution to approve the amended YMCA agreement that had been presented to the council. This agreement deals with a management agreement for the Steele Family Aquatic Center between the City of Washington and the YMCA. This agreement had been submitted for review at the September 20th meeting but was tabled until the October 18th meeting so the council could come to a consensus.

The council unanimously approved sending an amended agreement back to the YMCA Board to continue the process of trying to reach an agreement. At the YMCA board meeting on Monday, October 24th, the board unanimously approved the newly amended agreement after deciding it was in the best interest of kids and families in the community to continue the agreement.

Amy Schulte, the CEO of the Washington YMCA, talked with KCII Radio about the new management fee in 2023. “So in 2022, our management fee was $3,000. So, we are asking for the management fee to go up incrementally over the next three years in the agreement, so the new fee we will receive in 2023 is $10,000. It’s significantly below the rate that other YMCAs have for other communities, so it’s a very reasonable rate from both perspectives when you look at the hard data.”

The next meeting of the Washington City Council will be November 1st at 6:00 pm in the Council Chambers at Washington City Hall.
