A bid has been awarded for the addition of a trailhead along the Kewash Nature Trail at Kirkwood Community College. The Washington County Conservation board accepted a bid from DeLong construction for $109,046. The bid came in higher than the board’s original estimate of $70,000-80,000. WCCB Director Zach Rozmus attributed this change to concrete costs being higher than they had anticipated.

Despite the difference, Rozmus says they are ready to move forward, “I know the bid came in higher than anticipated, but l think Brent [Hinson] and I are kind of on the same page where we’re ready to move forward and be done with the Kewash, not just that project, but also let’s just finish it and finish it right.”

The trailhead will include a small pavilion designed to provide a spot for students and residents to enjoy the trail. The goal is to  have construction done by June 1st.
