High Nitrate Levels in Wellman’s Drinking Water

Posted: Friday, July 5th, 2013 at 6:23 am

High nitrate levels in Wellman’s drinking water led to a warning from the state Department of Natural Resources yesterday. The reverse osmosis system used to reduce those levels was bypassed following a problem with its pump. According to Dennis White, Eastern Iowa Regional Manager for waste water treatment company, People Services Inc., the water is safe to drink. He does advise young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and others sensitive to nitrates and nitrites, to drink bottled water.

If you have any questions, call Wellman City Hall, or White at 319-404-0340.
