Starting in 2016, Washington County Environmental Health will test for arsenic each time they test a well. Jennine Wolf, director of environmental health, explained at this week’s Board of Health meeting that there have been problems elsewhere in Iowa with arsenic, citing a case in Cerro Gordo County where a woman ingested arsenic and had neurological damage.

Well testing is voluntary, but Wolf recommends wells be tested annually. To have your well tested contact the environmental health department at 653-7782.
