A company out of Oskaloosa has been chosen to survey Kalona’s west drainage ditch. FEMA has done an approximate study on the drainage ditch, also known as Salvesen Creek, but this study will be more in-depth and look at its capacity and effectiveness. Garden and Associates was chosen at Monday’s City Council meeting. Mayor Ken Herington shares they do the majority of the engineering work in the city. The project is estimated to cost around $11,000.

Herington adds this is the next step in their Flood Mitigation Plan.
