The Winfield-Mount Union golf teams wrapped up last week with a pair of conference victories, defeating the Columbus Wildcats in team play Thursday at Twin Lakes Golf Course in Winfield. The WMU boys’ score of 187 was 67 strokes better than Columbus. Wolves junior Carter Loyd was the meet medalist with an eight-over-par round of 44. Freshman Nick Sparrow was only two strokes behind as the runner-up, while classmate Max Edwards was third with a 47.

Senior Andrew Brown was tied for fourth after shooting 50, and WMU sophomore Jake Edwards added a 55. Senior Grant Watson had the top round for Columbus by also shooting 50. Senior Ethan Palmer and sophomore Ryan Coil both finished at 59.

The WMU girls compiled a team score of 215, beating the ‘Cats by over 100 strokes. Junior Lily Freeman fired the medalist round of 53 for the Wolves, with senior Alli Humphreys only 2 strokes behind and senior Isabel Kann only three back. Junior Afton Wilkerson added a 58 for Winfield-Mount Union, which will send its boys’ team to the West Liberty Invitational tomorrow and Hillcrest Academy Thursday before having both squads travel to New London Friday.
