Description: Actor Duffy Hudson and his one man show about the life of Audie Murphy entitled \”To Hell and Back\” at 2pm Sunday, June 21st. Murphy was one of the most decorated American soldiers and a Hollywood actor. He also spoke publicly about \”shell shock,\” referred to today as PTSD.

Description: Wayland\’s Independence Day Celebration begins at 7:30 am Saturday, July 4th with the Lions Club Breakfast at the Wayland Community Center. The Freedom Fun Walk and Run begins at 7:30am. Parade starts at 10:30am. Lunch at the community center is being held from 11 to 2pm. Parkview benefit supper starts at 4:30. Categories for the animal contest include horse, bull, boar, sheep goat and rabbit. Animals will be weighed in at noon Monday, July 20th at the fairgrounds. Tall corn contest also begins at noon. Drop them off at the depot between 8am and noon. Call 653-2552 for more information.

Golf Tournament

Description: The Curt Jensen Memorial Golf Tournament is being held Saturday, July 11th at the Washington Golf & Country Club The 4 person best shot will go toward a scholarship for a Washington High School senior. Fee is $35 for non-members and $25 for members. Carts are $25. Lunch is included in the entry fee. Corn Board

Description: Elections for the Iowa Corn Promotion Board will be held Tuesday, July 21st. Farmers interested in voting can visit the Washington County Extension Office. Absentee ballots can be requested by calling 515-225-9242 or by visiting iowa corn .org. The ballots are available by request until Monday, June 29th and must be postmarked by Tuesday, June 21st.
