Description: The Washington Library will hold a community event as part of the 175th Celebration on Tuesday, June 3rd from 9 to 5pm. Signup is now available at the library and downtown businesses for time slots. During that time, participants will read on the bench in front of the library.

Description: Washington County 4-Her’s are reminded of the upcoming deadlines. Items that need to be completed by May 15thinclude:
1. Enrollments completed in 4hOnline – 4-Her’s are unable to exhibit at county fair or State Fair if he/she does not have an active member account in 4honline.
2. Livestock entered/identified in member’s 4hOnline account for all non-weighed in animals that intend to be shown at the 2014 county fair or state fair. (Poultry is not required.)
3. Sheep & goats weigh-in information verified online.
4. State Fair swine DNA entered into 4hOnline.
5. 4-Her’s for 4-H contributions from clubs due to the Extension Office.
6. Clothing Event registrations due to the Extension Office for fashion revue, clothing selection or $15 challenge events.

Youth who have completed 8th grade through 12th grade are eligible to attend the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference.

Description: Beef producers interested in learning more about fescue management and comparing fall versus spring calving should plan to attend one of two upcoming beef management update sessions in southern Iowa. The sessions are May 20 and May 21 and feature animal science professor and beef cow specialist Ken Coffey from the University of Arkansas.

The May 20 update will be held at the Afton Community Center on the west side of the town square. The May 21 location is the Rathbun Regional Water Association Headquarters, 16166 Highway J29.

Session start time is 7 p.m. for both locations. The session cost is $10, payable at the door.
