Description: The Washington Public Library & Girl Scouts Troop 9259 & 9244 are sponsoring a mitten tree. They are taking donations of new mittens, gloves, scarves, hats, & socks until Friday December 17. These items will be given to children & adults in need this holiday season.

Fairfield Gingerbread Extravaganza

Title: Fairfield Gingerbread Extravaganza
Description: Fairfield’s Gingerbread Extravaganza will Friday, December 3rd. The Historic Square will be alive with activity from 6:00 – 9:30 pm, starting with Santa Claus in the Kandy Kane House from 6- 8 pm. Horse drawn carriage rides will be available. The Shape Note Singers, in their Victorian Garb will fill the air with holiday songs and the Fiddlin\’ Granny will be making her way around the Square with her peppy fiddle tunes. In addition to the Gingerbread House contest entries being displayed in the shop windows, several storefronts will feature live holiday animations. The children’s Gingerbread Workshop will be located at Fellowship Gallery on the East side of the Square starting at 6 pm and lasting until 8 pm.

Description: The Washington United Methodist Country Fair will be Friday December 3rd from 10am to 1pm at the church. Gifts from Granny’s Attic, Baked Goods, Candy, Jelly and Crafts will be for sale. Description: Washington United Methodist church invites the public to celebrate the beginning of Advent on Nov 28 with the Hanging of the Greens. At all three worship services the traditions explaining evergreens, Christmas trees, candles, holly and ivy, nativity scenes and poinsettias will be explained as it relates to the birth and reign of Jesus Christ. Description: The Ainsworth Opera House in Ainsworth will be hosting one of the world\’s largest displays of the nativity open for the public Friday and Saturday December 3rd and 4th and 10th and 11th from 10am to 8pm. and Sunday December 5th and 12th from 1 pm to 5pm. Over 2,000 different nativity scenes will be shown from over 100 counties. Each nativity is identified with country, year, and special features. Special tours for groups outside regular hours can be arranged by calling Michael Zahs at 319-653-6520. Duplicate nativity scenes are offered for sale, with all proceeds helping maintain the Opera House. A $5 minimum donation is requested to view the display.
