Hospice of washington County 11th Annual 5k Walk/Run – Rescheduled

Title: Hospice of washington County 11th Annual 5k Walk/Run – Rescheduled
Description: The Hospice of Washington County has set the date for their postponed 11th Annual 5K Memorial Walk/Run Fundraiser to Saturday October 9th. Registration begins at 8:15am and the walk/run begins at 9am in Lower Sunset Park in Washington. If you have already registered, your T-Shirt and Packet can be picked up at the office anytime, or the Hospice can bring it with them on the day of the 5K Walk/Run. The Hospice is still collecting patient photos for the walk/run so anyone interested can contact the office. Description: The Washington Noon Optimist Club is sponsoring a Soup Supper Wednesday from 5-7pm at the Washington Junior High School Cafeteria. Soups will be Chili and Potato with desserts and trimmings. Carry out is available. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for kids ages 6-10, kids under 5 are free. Tickets can be purchased from any Noon Optimist Club member, Washington Community Y, Washington State Bank and Federation Bank. Proceeds go to benefit area youth programs.

Title: Wild and Wacky Waters Halloween Hike
Description: “Wild and Wacky Waters” will be the feature of the Halloween Hike at the Virginia Grove Recreation Area on the evening of Saturday, October 16. This year’s theme will focus on Iowa’s waters and the strange creatures who inhabit them. Guides will lead participants on a 45 minute hike through a jack-o-lantern lit timbered trail, stopping along the way to watch fun and educational skits. Reservations for the hike are required and can be made online at www.NaturallyLouisaCounty.com or by calling Louisa County Conservation at 319-523-8381. A minimum of one adult for every three children attending is requested. The fee is $3 for adults and $1 for children and includes refreshments after the hike.

Description: The Washington Public library is partnering with Rockwell Collins to bring two programs at the library teaching physics and astronomy to kids of all ages \”Becoming an Astronaut for a Day\” (for 1st-6th graders) on Saturday from 10am to noon. Where kids will learn through demonstration, models and photographs about space. \”Design, Build and Launch Your Own Water Bottle Rocket\” (for 6th – 12th graders), also on the 25th, will give kids an introduction to the forces at work and design issues of creating and designing their own rockets. A 2-liter bottle is needed for this program. Both events are free and no registration is required.

Senior fest is a community-wide health fair for seniors and those caring for them.
