The Washington United Methodist Church at 206 West 2nd Street, invites the community to join them on Sunday, December 19th at 9 or 10:30 a.m. to see the “Puppet’s with a Purpose”. This puppet program will be presented by the Junior and Senior High School Students and is directed by Tammy Negrete. All are welcome.

The West Chester Community is sponsoring a blood drive for the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center on Wednesday, December 29th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the West Chester United Methodist Church at 403 Franklin Street, West Chester. The Kalona Mennonite Church candlelight Christmas Eve service will be held at the church on Friday December 24th at 5:30 P.M. Guest speaker for this service will be pastor Dave Boshart.

The Washington Church of God Christmas Day Dinner will be on Christmas Day from noon to 1:30pm. The Dinner is open to the public. There will be Turkey, Ham and all the trimmings. Carry out meals will be available. Reservations are welcome but you can come with or with out. Reservations can be made at 319-653-2946, 319-653-5678 or 319-461-5148. The Church is located at 322 Avenue D in Washington.

The public is invited to a Christmas Concert entitled “The Spirit of Christmas” on Wednesday December 15th from 7 to 8pm at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church.

The Faith Baptist Church is hosting a Christmas concert called “In His Presence” on December 18th at 7 p.m. This concert features Lisa Ruffenach and family with vocals, keyboards, and multi-media.

United Presbyterian Read and Feed Book club will meet on Thursday Dec. 16 at 11:45am in the church library. Each person is to choose a book with a Christmas theme. Don’t forget your lunch.

The Circles of Support will be meeting on Monday December 20th at 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the United Methodist Church downstairs in the fellowship hall. The Washington United Methodist Country Fair will be Friday December 3rd from 10am to 1pm at the church. Gifts from Granny’s Attic, Baked Goods, Candy, Jelly and Crafts will be for sale. The luncheon will be from 11am to 1pm with hot chicken sandwiches and crumbly beef sandwiches and much more. Free will offering will be accepted, carry out available.

Washington United Methodist church invites the public to celebrate the beginning of Advent on Nov 28 with the Hanging of the Greens. At all three worship services the traditions explaining evergreens, Christmas trees, candles, holly and ivy, nativity scenes and poinsettias will be explained as it relates to the birth and reign of Jesus Christ. Worship is at 7:45, 9 and 10:30 AM. The public is welcome.

The Ainsworth Opera House in Ainsworth will be hosting one of the world’s largest displays of the nativity open for the public Friday and Saturday December 3rd and 4th and 10th and 11th from 10am to 8pm. and Sunday December 5th and 12th from 1 pm to 5pm. Over 2,000 different nativity scenes will be shown from over 100 counties. Each nativity is identified with country, year, and special features. Special tours for groups outside regular hours can be arranged by calling Michael Zahs at 319-653-6520. Duplicate nativity scenes are offered for sale, with all proceeds helping maintain the Opera House. A $5 minimum donation is requested to view the display.

Mission Market on Saturday, December 4th from 9:00-11:30am at the Kalona United Methodist Church at 302 4th Street in Kalona. Donations honoring loved ones is an alternative way of giving that is usually well recieved. The projects to be featured include: the Parkview Home Chaplaincy Program, Hospice of Washington County, Washington County Enrichment Foundation, and many more.

Jubilance Children’s Choir will be performing a Christmas concert on Sunday, December 12 at 3pm at Kalona Mennonite Church. Jubilance is a 35 voice community children’s choir directed by Rhonda Miller and accompanied by Chelsy Bontrager.
