Education Reforms Get a Late Night Debate in the House

Lawmakers have been looking at an Education Reform Package introduced by Governor Terry Branstad late last year. On Tuesday night, House Representatives had a debate on these reforms that stretched until almost midnight. A bulk of that time was spent discussing the part of the reforms dealing with early grade level literacy.

Washington Farmer Wins $2,500 for County Fair

A Washington County Farmer has won a prize that he will be donating to the Washington County Fair. Steve and Sue Norman of Washington won $2,500 through a Monsanto sponsored program, America’s Farmers Grow Communities.

Louisa-Muscatine Board Hears Bargaining Proposal

The Louisa-Muscatine School Board met yesterday to receive the initial bargaining proposal from the L&M Education Associations. The proposal included extending sick days so that employees could use them when grandchildren are sick and not just children.
