Kalona Garbage and Recycling Rates Raised

The Kalona City Council approved an ordinance last week to raise garbage and recycling fees.  Recycling fees will rise a quarter from five dollars to $5.25.  40 pound garbage bag fees rose a quarter as well, from $1.00  to $1.25.  The new fees will take effect this Thursday, July 1st.

Former Sigourney Grad Completes Basic

A former Sigourney Graduate has completed basic training.  Army National Guard Private Steven J. Piere spent nine weeks at Fort Jackson, Columbia South Carolina.  Piere studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, basic combat, military weapons, and rifle marksmanship as well as other military skills.  He is the son of Debbie Wilcut from Des Moines, and graduated from Sigourney High School in 2007.
