The Washington boys’ basketball season came to a close on Monday night falling to Southeast Conference foe Fairfield 57-36 in Solon for the first round of the class 3A districts.
Drake women’s basketball won the in-state battle with UNI on Friday by coming out with a 72-67 victory. The Bulldogs stay undefeated in the Missouri Valley Conference at 14-0 and 19-7 overall. The Panthers fall to 13-12, 9-5 in conference. Drake hosts Bradley on Friday and UNI hosts Illinois State.
Class 1A
Sigourney-Keota
#9 Mason Dye at 106 lbs lost his quarterfinal match to #2 Beau Klingensmith of Woodbury Central by fall (5:00). He then beat #5 Donavon Hanson of Manson Northwest Webster by fall (1:34). His third match he faced Bryce Shaha of Mount Ayr and won by a 10-6 decision in the third round of consolations. Tomorrow he faces #6 Brock Dietz of Nashua-Plainfield in the consolation semifinal round.
#2 Kaleb Reeves lost his first match of the day at 220 lbs to #5 Zack Santee of Central Springs by a 4-3 decision. He then won in the second round of regionals over #9 Brett Schoenherr of Midland, Wyoming by fall (:37). In his final match Reeves beat #3 Chaz Clark of Pleasantville by fall (4:24). Saturday he matches up with #4 Nicholas Gaes of Alta-Aurelia in the semifinal consolation round.
Highland
Brady Hahn fell at 145 lbs in the quarterfinal matchup by fall (5:42) to Nicholas Martin of Moravia. His tournament came to an end when he lost to #2 Kory VanOrt of West Sioux by an 8-2 decision in the second round of consolations.
Lone Tree
Aaron Slaughter saw his tournament come to a close at 113 lbs when he lost by a 21-10 major decision against #4 Jacob Moore of Denver in the second round of consolations.
WACO
Cody Crawford lost his only match of the day in the second round of consolations at 285 lbs to #7 Darlyn Marquez of West Sioux by a 7-2 decision. Crawford has been knocked out of the tournament.

Walker Ikerd is done for the tournament after falling to #2 Kaden Anderlik of Crestwood in the second round of consolations for 120 lbs by a 9-3 decision.
Tristin Westphal-Edwards lost at 170 lbs in the quarterfinals to Mount Vernon’s Paul Ryan by a 6-5 decision. He is done for the tournament after falling to #4 Noah Glaser of New Hampton Turkey Valley by a 9-8 decision in the second round of consolations.
Mitchell Huisenga saw his career at 285 lbs end after falling to #8 Kobe Clayborne of Sioux City Bishop Heelan Catholic in the second round of consolations by fall (2:10).
Columbus Community/Winfield-Mt. Union
#1 Jared Kadel started the day with an 8-4 decision win at 106 lbs against No. 6 Jacob Mielke of Pocahontas Area in the quarterfinals. He then pinned #5 Colby Lillegard of Bondurant-Farrar in 5:29 to punch his ticket to the finals. He will face #2 Matthew Lewis of Centerville in the championship match tomorrow.
Cam Rice lost to No. 4 Tanner Probasco of South Tama County in the quarterfinals at 138 lbs by fall (2:53). He then won the second round of consolations over Reed Abbas of Clarion-Goldfield by fall (2:59). He finished up the day falling to Colby Tool of Prairie City Monroe by fall (4:42). Rice will compete in the seventh place match tomorrow against #7 Brennan Todd of Sioux City Bishop Heelan Catholic.
