Mid-Prairie Overcomes Slow Start; Puts Away Wilton

The Mid-Prairie girls basketball team was slow out of the gates Tuesday night but turned things on after the first quarter, cruising to a 61-34 win over Wilton in Wellman. In a game heard on KCII, Wilton controlled the first eight minutes holding a 7-2 lead over the #8 ranked Hawks before Mid-Prairie exploded for 27 second quarter points taking a 29-15 lead to the break. Out of the half Mid-Prairie picked up where they left off expanding the lead to as many as 29 in the second half. The Golden Hawks were led by Mariah Swartzentruber’s 20 points, Mallory McCartor added 14 including the first 10 of the game for the Golden Hawks.

Following the game Coach Marc Pennington said he told his team that actions speak louder than words, and that the first quarter wasn’t good, but that in the second half his team stepped up.

With the win Mid-Prairie is now 7-2 overall, 5-2 in the Cedar Valley Conference and will meet Clear Creek Amana Thursday night in Wellman. You can hear that doubleheader on KCII with pregame at 5:30 and tip off at 6PM.

IMS’s Physical Play Overcomes Highland

IMS girls beat Highland last night 55-49.

The Huskies took the game into overtime, but only scored four points in the extra frame of play.

They were led by Samantha Dutton with 14 points and Bridget Murphy with 10.

Head coach Jodi Fink said it was a very physical game that may have costs Highland three players for awhile.

Highland is now 6-5 in conference play while IMS is 5-8.

WMU Boys Lose by One

Kingery’s 20 Outscores L-M’s 18

The WMU girls added a tally to the win column last night beating L-M 43-18.

The Wolves went on a 12-0 run for 11 minutes in the first half in the win.

Cassie Kingery led the way for WMU with 20 points on the night.

WMU is now 11-3 on the season with their next two games facing the only two teams that have beat them this year. WACO on Friday and Mediapolis next Tuesday.
