The Demon wrestlers split at their triangular at Highland last night. The Demons beat Highland 70-12 and lost to Louisa-Muscatine in a close on 33-30.

Gingerich nominated for national award

An area basketball coach is being considered for a national award. IMS Boys Head Coach Dwight Gingerich is one of 18 Iowa coaches nominated for the 2010 National Coach/Athletic Director of the Year.

Demon girls win big

It was Senior Night in Washington as the Demon boys and girls hosted Mid-Prairie. Because the girls the last two season have had bad luck with snow and senior nights, they decided to take care of it right out of the gates so they didn’t risk a repeat.

Lone Tree boys start with win

The Lone Tree boys started their season with a road win over Olin 61-48. For Lone Tree freshman Bryan Forbes had 15, Trey Forbes had 12 and Quinn Rayner put in 8.

The Lone Tree girls were at Lisbon and it was Lisbon winning 55-48.

Sigourney girls beat Belle Plaine 57-28.

Mid-Prairie boys open basketball sesaon tonight

The Mid-Prairie boys basketball team kicks off their season tonight on the road against Williamsburg. Mid-Prairie Head Coach Don Showalter says heading in they’ll miss a few kids with Christian Boehmer, Micah Berg, and Cody Bontrager out with acl injuries. Showalter says in terms of returners Tanner Miller will be key along with Kaleb Duwa, Mark Aldeman, Dylan Hochstetler, and Michael Aldeman. As for the Williamsburg Raiders they are coached by former Mid-Prairie assistant Dave Schlabaugh and have all-state guard Chad Malloy back for his senior season. The Golden Hawks play at Williamsburg tonight and come to Washington for a boy-girl doubleheader tomorrow.

Lone Tree basketball teams are at Olin

Lone Tree boys will also kick off their season tonight as they travel to take on Olin. This is a boy-girl doubleheader but the girls have already started their season. They lost a tight game to Highland last Tuesday. The rest of the Super Conference boys teams open the season tomorrow night.

Meanwhile, the Sigourney Savage girls basketball team goes on the road tonight for their second game of the season. The Savages will face Belle Plaine.
