Description: The Goodwin Senior Center is having a Memorial Day Brunch on May 29 in Wellman. Come before Memorial Day Services or afterwards. Everyone is welcome to this brunch that is happening from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Biscuits and gravy, egg casseroles, coffee cake, cinnamon rolls, and more will be served. There is a free will donation accepted to help cover utility and other costs for the senior center.

Manure Applicator Programs

Description: Washington County Extension will reshow both the Commercial and Confinement Manure Applicator Programs on Friday, June 2nd, for those that were unable to attend a workshop. These programs are shown free of charge on the first Friday of each month in Washington. Applicators that need to schedule a reshow at any other time will be charged a $10 fee per person. The commercial manure program and the confinement manure program will be shown at 1:30 p.m. at the Washington County Extension Office.

Cook Off Contest

Description: The 3rd annual cook off contest at Ss. Peter & Paul Church at Clear Creek in Harper will be taking place June 24th. The entrees will be provided to the grill-masters and include pork ribs, beef brisket, and chicken hind quarters. There will be a $100 entry fee and $350 prize for each entree. Tickets will be available in advance or at the door. Bring lawn chairs to enjoy the fireworks at dark. There will be a beverage tent and games for the kids. Bain Palooza

Description: Kalona Days Fun Run and Walk will take place on Saturday June 17 in downtown Kalona. The 1 mile run starts at 7:40 am and the 5K begins at 8 a.m. Trophies will be given for the top male and female in the 1 mile and 5K, and medals will be given to the top 3 places in each division. $35 for registration, t-shirts will be given to all racers who are pre-registered and t-shirts will be guaranteed to the first 25 racers the morning of the race. Port Louisa Spring Bird Festival

Location: Port Louisa NWR Headquarters
Description: Learn to “talk” a little more “bird” on Saturday, May 20th, and the Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge Bird Festival. The event runs from 7am to 11am and includes a wide variety of activities. Wildlife biologist David Griffin will guide an early morning bird watching walk on refuge trails at 7:30. A second bird walk specifically aimed at children and families will be at 8:30 am led by Naturalist Bobbi Provost. The event is free and open to the public and will take place rain or shine.

Mid-Prairie Boys’ Bball Camp

Description: Mid Prairie Boys\’ Basketball camp is June 19th through the 22nd. The camp will include daily instruction from Mid-Prairie staff and current players. Pig & Pint Prelude

Description: North Liberty residents are invited to purchase tickets in a special presale for the Pig & Pint Prelude, a private fundraiser the night before Blues & BBQ on July 7, to benefit the annual event. The official kick-off to Blues & BBQ weekend will raise funds to support the festival’s commitment to keeping admission to the Saturday event free for all attendees. Gates will open and food and drink will be available starting at 6 p.m. with entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. The night will be casual, and should wrap up around 9:30 p.m. No formal program is planned. The Pig & Pint Prelude is open to all ages, but there will be no organized kids’ activities.
