Rock ‘N’ Ride

Title: Rock \’N\’ Ride
Description: The annual Rock \’N\’ Ride is coming to Washington Saturday, July 9th. The day begins at 8AM with a 3 Mile Fun run that begins at the KC Hall and follows the KeWash (Key-Wash) trail. The bicycle ride from the KC Hall in Washington to Riverside and back begins at 9AM. There will be a lunch and celebration with family games and activities from 11AM-3PM. Live music will be part of the day including the evening event at the KC Hall from 6-11:30PM which includes dinner with a silent and live auction.

Description: The Wayland Economic Development group is hosting a Memorial Day Breakfast Monday, May 30th from 6:30-9AM at the Wayland Community Center. Description: The Youth Fish Iowa games will be held Saturday, June 4th at 10AM at the Oakland Mills Nature Center. These games allow students to learn basic fishing techniques and participate in a fun competition to display their skills. Participants must preregister by calling Trent at 319-986-5067. Title: Moonlight Paddle
Description: Paddle under the light of the full moon Saturday, May 21st from 9-11PM at Lacey-Keosauqua State Park. The paddle begins and ends at the boat ramp. Naturalist Brittney Tiller will give a presentation on the water. Registration is required for the event and participation is limited to 20 boats. Boats are available to rent. Description: The Maker Girls Goes Mobile Summer Campaign is coming to Washington Tuesday, June 21st at 9AM at the UP Home Campus Center and at the Washington Public Library the 21st from 2-3:30 and 6:30-8 or Wednesday the 22nd from 10:45-12:15. This program strives to serve rural and underserved communities across the country to help girls keep their interest in STEM fields or spark new ones. Registration is required and can be done at the Washington Public Library.

Activities begin at 4:30 and continue until 8:30PM. KidzFest is designed to promote health, wellness, and safety to youth in Washington and the surrounding areas. It is an evening of entertainment, activities, food, and fun for the whole family.

Washington YMCA Project on Vision Iowa Agenda

The Washington YMCA project was one of 10 projects on the agenda yesterday for the Community Attraction and Tourism Committee of Vision Iowa meeting. At their April 26th meeting the Washington City Council approved holding a bond referendum vote not to exceed $3 million. At that time, Director of the YMCA Becky Harkema told KCII News she was happy to hear that the people of Washington will get to vote. The project will cost a total of $10.5 million and they are seeking a $1.5 million Vision Iowa grant. The vote will be held in August.

It is a 5k fun run/walk presented by the Old Capital City Roller Derby to support Paws and More Animal Shelter. Participants are invited to bring their dogs to take part in the walk/run with them as long as the animals are vaccinated, leashed, non-aggressive and in good physical condition. Brighton Summer Day Camps

Title: Brighton Summer Day Camps
Description: The City of Brighton and the Brighton Chamber of Commerce are hosting summer day camps for youth who have competed Kindergarten through 3rd grades. These camps will be held Monday, August 8th through Thursday, August 11th. Camps will be held from 9AM-3PM each day. Youth should be dropped off and picked up at the Brighton Community Center. These camps are free to Brighton area youth. Bring a sack lunch, snacks will be provided. To register pick up a form at Brighton City Hall, the Washington County Extension Office or call the Extension Office at 653-4811. Deadline to register is July 15th.
