Communications Night

Title: Communications Night
Description: Washington County 4-H’ers will participate in Communications Night on Wednesday July 11 in Dallmeyer Hall at the fairgrounds. All Washington County 4-H’ers are eligible to participate in educational presentations. Senior 4-H’ers may also participate in extemporaneous speaking. The public is welcome to come and enjoy from 2-8 p.m. For more information call 319-653-4811.

Description: Washington Public Library is hosting Teens Code on Tuesday July 10th at noon. Grades 6th grade and up get to learn the basics of coding. Activities are both on and off the computer through games, handouts, and activities. Please register at the front desk by Monday, July 9th.

Description: Washington County Extension is holding a 4-H Photo Mounting Day on Tuesday July 10 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the extension office. Photo mounting day is open to all Washington County 4-H’ers who want to prepare their photography exhibits for the fair. Preregistration is not required.

Description: The Washington Public Library is hosting a teens advisory board open house on Saturday July 7th at noon. Anyone aged 5th grade and up interested in getting involved with the library is welcome to stop by and learn what the teen advisory board is all about. Help choose selections for the collection, suggest events and programs, and boss the librarians around a little.

Swedish Pancake Breakfast

Title: Swedish Pancake Breakfast
Description: The Swedish American Museum is hosting its annual Swedish Pancake Breakfast Saturday July 7th from 8a.m. – 11 a.m. at the parish hall in Swedesburg. They will be serving Swedish pancakes with lingonberries, Potatis Korv (Potato Sausage), homemade pastries, and coffee. Cost is $7 for adults for $3.50 for children.

Description: The Wellman-Scofield Public Library is hosting a cook book club event on Friday July 20 at 2 p.m. For their first meeting they will be looking at Wanda Brunstetter’s Amish Cooking Class Cookbook. Participants are asked to prepare a recipe from the book to share with the group. We will be tasting recipes and discussing the book. Ask at the library desk for a copy of the recipe of your choice.

Taste of CJ

Title: Taste of CJ
Description: The third Taste of Columbus Junction event will be held on Wednesday July 11 from 6-8 p.m. at the Monkey Run Park shelters and the Swinging Bridge Park. There will be food and family fun activities and emergency vehicles to view and enjoy. Friends of the Columbus Junction Public Library will install a storybook hike on the Monkey Run Trail, the book Jack McDonald Takes a Hike will be displayed along the trail in English, Spanish, and Chin. A donation of $5 per person and $20 per family is suggested with proceeds going towards improvements at the Swinging Bridge Park. Tickets can be purchased in advance at City Hall or at the United Methodist Church or at the Monkey Run Park on the day of the event.

Description: Washington County Extension will reshow both the Commercial and Confinement Manure Applicator Programs on Friday July 6 for those that were unable to attend a workshop previously. These programs are shown free of charge on this date, applicators that need to schedule a reshow at another time will be charged a $10 fee. Description: The Highland Robotics team the Finger Tightans will be hosting a robotics tournament during Trekfest on Saturday June 30 from 1-7 p.m. on the basketball courts in Hall Park in Riverside. They have brought together 8 teams from across the state of Iowa, including 3 teams that attended the 2018 Detroit World Championship. Viewers can expect to watch epic robot competition, listen to intriguing commentary, and get to talk face-to-face with world class teams.

Description: Louisa County Conservation is hosting “Amphibians Rock” at the Keck Memorial Library in Wapello on Friday June 29 from 2-3 p.m. Participants will learn how Amphibians rock while bring to life a nature story and learning all about frogs, toads, and salamanders. The program will include a story, craft, and an exciting activity. Louisa County Conservation will be hosting the same program at the Letts Library on July 10 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and at the Morning Sun Library on July 13 from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
