Description: Washington Community High School teachers and administration welcome all parents and guardians to parent teacher conferences on Wednesday, September 27 from 3:45-7:15 p.m. in the high school commons. Student schedules and midterm grades may be picked up when entering through the front office. Parents and guardians are encouraged to visit with each teacher listed on the student’s schedule, as well as other staff members.

Description: Lifeguard Ministry is hosting a Kickball and Cornhole Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 23rd for any child that is currently in 3rd-6th grade. Bring the whole family for fun and games. We are offering free T-shirts and lunch. The tournament starts at 10:30am at the Kalona City Park. Over 20 local high school students run Lifeguard Ministry. Come and enjoy an afternoon playing Kickball in the park.

Joyful Noises Choir Practice

Title: Joyful Noises Choir Practice
Description: Joyful Noises fall session begins Tuesday, September 26. Joyful Noises is an adult special needs choir open to all individuals over 14 years of age. We gather together weekly to sing fun, familiar songs from all decades and work toward preparing a concert to be performed for the community. Practices will be held at the Washington Mennonite Church every Tuesday evening from 6-7 p.m. The fall concert will be performed in mid-November.

Description: Everyone is invited to attend the Youth Plus “After Prom” breakfast on Sunday, October 1st from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at Lagos Acres in Keota. They will be serving pancakes, eggs, muggins, and sausage from the Keota Locker. There will be a free will donation. All proceeds help make the “After Prom” party possible.

Description: The public is invited to attend a free program on mapping of Washington public land trees and emerald ash borer. Consulting arborist Andy Dahl will share some insights into Emerald Ash Borer, the status of trees in our community, and what will need to be done. The program will be held September 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington County Extension Office. This program is being hosted by the Washington County Master Gardeners.

Description: Louisa County Conservation’s Archaeology Program Series concludes with “Protection of Ancient Human Remains in Iowa” on Thursday, September 21 from 6-7 p.m. at the Columbus Junction Civic Center. Bioarchaeology Director at the Office of the State Archaeologist Lara Nolder will give a summary and brief history of the Iowa Code sections that provide protection for ancient human remains in the state. She will also discuss how the legislation is implemented, with examples of the sites it serves to protect.

Description: Washington County 4-H would like to recognize those volunteers who have had a large impact on 4-H this year and in the past. These adult awards will be presented at the 4-H Award and Family Fun Night November 5. Five awards will be given out: Friend of 4-H, Partner in 4-H, 4-H Volunteer of the Year, 4-H Alumni, and 4-H Family of the Year. Description: The Louisa County Trail Council is sponsoring a Raptor Bicycle Ride on Saturday, September 30 from 9 a.m.- noon at Toolesboro Mounds and Museum. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Toolesboro with the ride starting at 9 a.m. Cyclists are encouraged to attend the RARE – Raptor Advocacy, Rehabilitation and Education event being held at the Port Louisa National Refuge from 10 a.m.- 11 a.m. This event is free and open to the public. Participants will get to learn about and view live Iowa raptors. Pre-registration is requested, but not required.
