Description: The Council of Mid-Prairie Churches is sponsoring a clothes giveaway for residents of Washington County. It will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Kalona United Methodist Church located at 4th Street and C Avenue. The dates and hours are Friday, July 21 from 1-6 pm and Saturday, July 22 from 9 am – noon. Used clothing, shoes, coats, and linens will be available to families needing assistance with these items.

Iowa Corn Growers Association Roundtable

Title: Iowa Corn Growers Association Roundtable

Description: Policy development at the Iowa Corn Growers Association is a grassroots process. Each year Iowa Corn hosts roundtable meetings in local communities across the state to gather input and feedback from growers. The meetings allow ICGA members to come together, share a meal, and discuss key issues impacting corn farmers. Policies brought forward and approved at roundtable meetings go on the Annual ICGA Grassroots Summit on August 26 for the ICGA delegates to debate. Fairfield will be hosting a roundtable meeting at the Heartland Co-op Board Room from 11:30 am to 2 pm on July 6. Roundtables are free for ICGA members but registration is encouraged.

Pesticide Testing

Description: The Iowa Department of Ag and Land Stewardship (IDALS) will offer pesticide testing on Friday, July 14 at the Washington County Extension office from 10 am to 2 pm. All tests are available at this site and will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis. IDALS offers testing monthly at Washington County Extension, April through December. Camp Creamery

Description: Camp Creamery presents “A Mystery at Mimsley Manor” from July 24-28 from 10 am to 2 pm. Registration for the camp is $50 per child and includes a show t-shirt. The camp is designed to give children ages 7 and up the unique opportunity to work and perform with three professional actors from The Old Creamery Theatre. Registration forms are available at the Washington Community Center. Performances take place July 28 and 29 at 7 p.m. Performance tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Description: Take a break from the heat this summer and travel back to a cooler time in Iowa. The Washington County Conservation Board’s program “Iowa Ice Ages” takes place Sunday July 2nd, at 1 p.m. at the Conservation Education Center at Marr Park. During this family friendly program they will take close look at glaciers, the times when they ruled over the Northern Hemisphere, the effects they had on the land and life then, and even how the remnants of those past Ice Ages affect us and the land today. Description: Washington County Extension will reshow both the Commercial and Confinement Manure Applicator programs on Friday, July 7th, for those that were unable to attend a workshop. These programs are shown free of charge on the first friday of each month in Washington. Applicators that need to schedule a reshow at any other time will be charged a $10 fee per person.
