Fairfield State Senator Becky Schmitz says an early retirement plan is expected to save Iowa $200 million over the next five years. Schmitz says its part of the legislature’s government reorganization effort, which also includes consolidating some of the state’s computer services. Schmitz says this is the first major overhaul of state government in nearly 25 years. She admits change won’t be easy but says “business as usual is not an option.”
