At the Iowa Girls State Basketball Tournament, the 1A, 2A, and 3A championship games are set. First in 1A 25-0 Exira will meet 26-1 Mount Ayr this evening. In 2A, Manson-NW Webster beat OA-BCIG 40-31 while Mount Vernon, the team that came out of Mid-Prairie’s and Sigourney’s regional, beat Roland-Story 47-38. Mount Vernon is 24-3 on the season. In Class 3A, it was a rematch of last year’s championship game when Bishop Heelan faced Ballard yesterday. Ballard beat Heelan last season and in the opening round at state beat Assumption the team that knocked out the Demons in the regional final. Yesterday Heelan got their revenge beating Ballard 59-54 handing them only their second loss of the season. In the other 3A semifinal Waukon handed Algona their first loss of the season beating them 53-46. So tomorrow it’s Heelan and Waukon battling for the 3-A title. The 4A semifinal games will be played today.
