Washington is looking at purchasing a piece of property from the Marion Avenue Baptist Church. City Administrator Dave Plymann says the structure sitting on the site was heavily damaged when a nearby building collapsed in 2006. Plymann says owning both pieces of property would make it easier to have the two sites cleaned up and made ready for development. He says the church is prepared to sell the land for a “nominal” fee essentially donating it, provided the city cover the cleanup costs. Councilors have authorized the city attorney to move forward with the purchase.
