People with older medicines in their house have a place they can take them and not harm the environment. Hy-Vee Pharmacist J. R. Fikuart say they take part in the state’s Take Away program. He says the Take Away program is sponsored by the Iowa Pharmacists Association where pharmacies can take back used medication for disposal only.
There are over 400 pharmacies across the state that participate in the Take Away program. Fikuart says the only medicines they cannot accept are controlled substances.
He says they offer special drop off locations during the year where all medicines are taken back with no questions asked and are properly discarded. Fikuart notes anyone who wishes to drop off old medications may do so at any time for no charge.
