The Iowa Department of Public Health has joined with Washington County Public Health in recognizing this week as Infant Immunization Week. Public Health Nurse Lynn Fisher says during the week, they celebrate how successful Iowans are in giving vaccinations to their children. She says 99.1% of children are immunized across the state during the school age years.
Fisher says there are 14 different diseases that can be prevented with vaccines. She adds out of all the different vaccines given, not all of them are 100% effective which prompts the Centers for Disease Control to change the requirements on immunizations.
