The Mid-Prairie basketball road tour continued last night in Durant where the Golden Hawks met the Wildcats in Cedar Valley Conference double header action. In a game heard on KCII and KCIIradio.com the Mid-Prairie girls played their best contest to date, roaring past Durant 49-32. Mid-Prairie held the Wildcats without a field goal through the first 13 minutes of the game while building a 21-1 advantage. Durant would close the gap to 10 but an early 4th quarter run put the game away. The Golden Hawks’ Mallory McArtor and Mariah Swartzentruber each scored in double digits with 11 and 10 respectively to improve to 3-3 on the season and 3-1 in the Cedar Valley Conference

The Mid-Prairie boys put together a spirited effort that fell short in the final seconds as Durant scored a come from behind 44-40 win. The Golden Hawks jumped out to a 12-5 lead but took a 20-19 lead into the locker room. Mid-Prairie built their lead behind great defense, dropping into a triangle-and-two that held Durant stars Vance and Von Glaser each without a point through the first half. Durant took its first lead early 4th quarter on a Von Glaser three pointer at 31-30. With the Wildcats leading 35-30 at the mid way point of the 4th Mid-Prairie’s Austin Errthum and Jaemin Powell hit back to back triples to give the Golden Hawks the lead. Durant would tie the game at 40 and had possession with 17 seconds left. Wildcats’ Tyler Brus drilled a three from the corner with 2.3 seconds left that would be the game winner. Reid Miller led the Golden Hawks with 11 points. Mid-Prairie is now 1-5 on the season 1-3 in the Cedar Valley conference and will be in double header action Tuesday at Clear Creek Amana.
