Electronic filings for last year’s taxes are beginning to be accepted. Christopher Miller with the Internal Revenue Service says consumers who use a tax preparer, have purchased tax preparation software or use their Free File system have the capability to submit information today.
He says the deadline to file taxes is three months from today on April 17th. Miller notes filing electronically is safe and is not sent through email.
Kay Arvidson, Assistant Public Information Officer for the Iowa Department of Revenue says filers can also begin filing in Iowa as well.
She says last year over 85% of Iowans filed their taxes electronically which led the country in the percentage of taxpayers not using paper returns. The deadline to file returns in Iowa is April 30th.
