The cost of renting farmland in southeast Iowa is continuing its upward trend from last year.  That’s according to the annual Cash Rental Rate Survey conducted by Iowa State University.

Last year, the cost in this corner of the state was listed at $198  per acre.  This year it jumped by $29 per acre.  The statewide average also went up this year to $252. Gene Mohling from the ISU Extension says the average rental price in Washington County is also $252 per acre.

He says this figure is based on the Corn Suitability Rating (CSR) per acre.  The average CSR rating for the county remains the same as last year at 81.
