The Washington Demons had a tough game ahead of them on paper last night, but played Marion to the final gun.

Marion won the game 13-10, but not without the Demons having a lot of chances in this game.

Marion put up two touchdowns in the first half on the ground. To start the game the Demons could not stop the running attack all the way, but it was the passing that had the Demons on their heels.

Trevor Hardman had five passes for a total of 101 yards, and finished the game 6-11 passing for 101 yards.

The second touchdown for Marion was another run, and they went for a two point conversion, but failed.

The Demons weren’t done, as they got the ball in great field position after a quick kick by Marion on third and 25, that was shanked and went 13 yards.

Washington went to their running game and Kyle Roder, who pushed into the endzone for the Demons only touchdown of the night off of a 19 yard run, and that is where it would go into the half.

The second half was all Demons, as the defense came out and sacked Hardman three times, and forced three fumbles, including allowing under 100 yards of offense for the Indians.

Washington had their chances to score, converting on the first one with a 30 yard field goal by Mason Quigley in the third quarter.

The game got out of hand after the field goal, with flags flying on almost every play. The Demons were inside the Marion 10 twice in the fourth quarter, including one time on the one yard line and had a false start.

Washington played the second half without Kyle Roder, as he went out with a lower back injury, while Daryn Seibelius played the game from the first quarter with a broken nose.

In the fourth Quigley had a chance on a 25 yard field goal, but missed it left.

In a last ditch effort, the Indians had to punt with seconds left on the board, and it was Alex Coker who received the kick. Coker dipped, dogged, spun and stumbled his way to the endzone off of a 74 yard punt return, but like most of the night flags on the field brought it back, and the Demon dropped the game.

Seibelius showed off his arm going 13-18 through the air for 175 yards passing.

Head coach Randy Schrader said after the game that there was no one person to blame in the game that was played.

“We had opportunities, our kids fought, I think a blind man could have seen that our kids didn’t match up with those guys, “Schrader said. “But our kids played hard, they played to the final gun, and they played hard, and I can’t say enough about our staff and our kids.”

Washington hosts Keokuk next week.
