Funding cuts are expected this year for the drug task force. Sheriff Jerry Dunbar explains that they are told to anticipate a 35 to 45% cut again. He states that the department is trying to decide what to do. Dunbar says that there is a need for at least one full time position due to the number of drug cases. Those involved may look at joining Johnson and or Muscatine counties for a regional task force.
The task force includes the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Washington City Police Department, Louisa County Sheriff’s Department and Columbus Junction Police Department. For the complete interview with Dunbar listen to tomorrow’s Washington Page.
