The Kalona City Council has decided on their capitol projects, some of which will be completed this fiscal year. At their most recent meeting, the council selected an estimated $228,500 worth of projects.

A $35,000 double entrance at the Community Center is one of the bigger investments. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says there’s no wind break with their current set-up, meaning it takes more energy to heat the building as is. Another step to make the Community Center more energy efficient is additional insulation in the top of the building. Schlabaugh says that insulation work will likely be completed yet this winter.

The capitol projects will be funded using local option sales tax, grant money from the casino, and dollars already budgeted for the work.
