A report from a citizen has led to the arrest of a Fairfield business owner. Following a month long investigation, the Fairfield Police Department arrested 34-year-old Johnny MacShane Kempf of Ottumwa. He’s charged with Delivery of Synthetics, an aggravated misdemeanor that’s punishable by up to two years in prison.

According to Lieutenant Colin Smith, the defendant was selling packages of synthetic marijuana at The Snack Shack, located on North Court Street in Fairfield. The department executed a search warrant on Saturday and seized several packages of the substance, which was being sold as potpourri. Additional charges depend on the results of lab tests. Smith says there are currently no laws dealing with synthetic drugs that will keep the store from remaining open.

Assisting with the investigation was the Mount Pleasant Police Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, New London Police Department, and the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office.
