After ten days of competitive volleyball, senior Sydney Hoffman and the Washington Demons entered their Volleyball Classic this weekend looking to show they were better than their 3-18 record indicates. Hoffman say Washington spent their time away working on fixing their personal errors.
“We (worked on) eliminating our unforced hitting errors, our unforced serving errors and just built off of that.”
The work in practice paid off the most during the Demons’ final match of the tournament against the Keota Eagles. The rated Eagles had fallen into the tourament’s 5th place game after losing to Wilton and Wapello in pool play. In the matchup, it was the Demons looking like the rated squad sweeping the Eagles (25-23, 25-18). Hoffman says it was nice to finally be able to finish a match.
“We have been working on that all year, just trying to finish.” Hoffman said, “We can play and play and then get beat down but to finally finish feels really good.”
Hoffman and the 5-20 Demons are back on the court tonight in Washington as the Fairfield Trojans come to town for a Southeast Conference match. Hoffman is hoping momentum for the Keota win carries the team on a late season winning streak.
“We see how good winning feels.” Hoffman said, “We will build on that and we want to win even more.”
The varsity match is set to begin this evening at 7:30.
