The Pekin Panther football team is one of the last eight teams playing for a Class A football championship.The undefeated Panthers welcomed in the Lisbon Lions to town for a second round matchup Monday evening in Packwood.
The Panthers used a balanced offensive attack on their way to a 47-6 victory over the Lions. Pekin scored four times on the ground, including three rushing touchdowns by junior Chase Copeland, to help facilitate the victory. Sophomore quarterback Trevor Northup collected just over 200 yards of total offense, and threw a 45 yard touchdown to junior receiver Keaton Winn in the victory.
The victory improves Pekin to 11-0 on the season. The Iowa High School Activities Association announced late Monday night that the Panthers will host the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Rebels in the Class A quarterfinals on Friday. Since their opening week loss to Union Community 25-7, the Rebels have rattled off 10 straight wins including a 56-14 win over BMG to get to the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinal playoff matchup between Pekin and Gladbrook-Reinbeck kicks off Friday at 7 p.m. in Packwood.
