The City of Kalona is moving forward with plans to reduce erosion on the banks of Salveson Creek north of Highway 22. According to City Administrator, Ryan Schlabaugh, the city has received $112,000 from the state revolving fund for the project.
Engineering work will be done and meetings with impacted property owners will be held to determine what the best course of action is before a plan is developed. He says if their plan is approved by the state, the project could be put out for bid by July. Schlabaugh explains the goal of the project will be to minimize the soil loss the city and property owners are seeing along the creek.
In November, the Iowa Flood Center recommended installing retention basins north of town and within city limits.
