Early Sunday, at 12:09 a.m., the Washington Fire Department responded to a fire call in the 1100 block of West 18th Street, east of Highway 1. A small fire was extinguished inside a vacant house. Washington Fire Department, Washington Police Department and Washington County Ambulance responded to the scene.

Crews from the Ainsworth Fire Department responded to a fire call nearly three hours later, at 3:28 a.m. The Ainsworth department was called in for mutual aid by the Columbus Junction Fire Department for an incident in Cotter. A vehicle was on fire in a garage in the 200 block of Cotter Street. The fire was extinguished.
