Homeowners in Kalona will be seeing a slight increase in their property taxes. The Kalona City Council approved the budget for fiscal year 2016 at Monday’s meeting. According to City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh, the tax levy will be $9.64 per $1,000 of evaluation, a three cent increase. He says adding an employee to the city’s benefits policy is the primary reason they adjusted the rate. The next fiscal year begins July 1st.
