For the second time in as many years, the Washington girls’ basketball team has a new head coach. The Washington Community School District announced the hiring of Jordan Bentley as the school’s newest Social Studies teacher and the next head girls’ basketball coach for the Demons.

Washington Athletic Director Bryce Smeins said Bentley’s prior experience played a roe in the decision to hire him, “He was the head coach at Turkey Valley and took a program that was struggling and in three years had them in the Regional Finals.” Smeins said, “He was looking for a teaching position at the same time and left Turkey Valley for West Marshall, where he was the co head coaching with a guy named Fred Zeller, who is a Hall of Fame type coach.”

Bentley also comes from a family of girls’ basketball coaches. His father, Jerry,  is the head girls’ basketball coach at Starmount School District, along with being the head football and girls’ track coach. His brother, Joshua, is the head girls’ basketball coach at College Community School District in Cedar Rapids.

Bentley takes over a program left by Washington alum Jay Zieglowsky, who is moving to Michigan at the end of the school year. The Demon girls’ basketball team went 6-16 in Zieglowsky’s lone season as head coach.
