In their last pair of Southeast Conference games of the season, the Washington Demon softball team (5-26 overall) earned their first league victory of the season. The Demons were in Mount Pleasant on Thursday, battling the Panthers at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex.
After opening the series with a 10-0 loss, Washington followed up with their best conference offensive output of the year. The Demons scored eight runs for just the third time this season, edging the Panthers 8-7. Three of Washington’s five victories of the season have come in the last six days, defeating Davenport Central (12-0) and Muscatine (3-1) on Saturday in a tournament held by the Muskies.
The conference split brings Washington’s overall record to 5-26. The Demons return to the field today, hosting the Williamsburg Raiders (12-16) at Washington’s softball complex.
