It was a short-lived postseason run for the WACO Warrior baseball team (3-21 overall). The Warrior were paired in the Class 1A District 10 tournament bracket versus the Holy Trinity Catholic Crusaders (1-17 overall). The Crusaders jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage and held on for a 4-3 victory over the Warriors.
Three runs in the bottom of the first inning by Holy Trinity helped gain an early advantage. WACO was down 4-1 before a two-run fifth inning helped pull the Warriors with one, to a 4-3 deficit. The final two innings of the game were scoreless, giving the Crusaders their first win of the season.
Junior Justin Chalupa went one for two at the plate, driving in a run and scoring another for the Warriors. Junior Seth Gillis went the distance on the mound, allowing four runs, two earned, on four hits walking seven and striking out nine in the setback.
Holy Trinity advances to play Burlington Notre Dame tonight in Winfield.
WACO’s season comes to a close at 3-21 overall.
