Over half an inch of rain fell in Washington between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. this morning and more rain is expected throughout the day. A flash flood watch is in effect for Washington County and much of Southeast Iowa until 1 a.m. Friday. According to the National Weather Service, a very moist atmosphere means storms are capable of producing one to two inches of rain per hour and with soil near saturation in many places flash flooding is possible.

Motorists are reminded that if they see standing water over a roadway to turn around, don’t drown. Listen to KCII for weather updates.
