With a vote of 4-1, the Washington County Board of Supervisors acknowledged a letter from Washington County Hospital and Clinics regarding assisting the hospital on a bond project. The letter explains WCHC is requesting that an urban renewal area be established for the land the hospital is located on and to convert revenue bonds to general obligation bonds.

Chairman of the supervisors Jack Seward explained approximately $3.8 million in interest will be saved by WCHC renegotiating the $14.3 million in revenue bonds to general obligation bonds. The hospital will continue to pay for the bonds but they would be held under the county’s debt. The only case where the county would have to pay for the bonds is if the hospital were to default.

A public hearing regarding the urban renewal area will be held at 9:30 a.m. September 29th.
