Emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle accident with one car upside down along Highway 218 Wednesday afternoon. At 2:33 p.m., the two vehicle wreck was reported at the intersection of Highway 218 and Vine Avenue, south of Ainsworth.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a Ford 500 driven by 57-year-old Virginia Lynn Sands of Crawfordsville was stopped at the sign at 282nd St. facing the highway. The Sands vehicle then pulled out from the stop sign into the southbound lanes of Highway 218 and collided with a Honda Element driven by 71-year-old Michael Eugene Wingerter of Maywood, Missouri.

Wingerter was transported by Washington County Ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital. Sands was cited for failure to stop and yield.

Iowa State Patrol, Washington County Ambulance, Washington County Sheriff’s personnel, Washington Rescue, Ainsworth QRS, and Ainsworth Fire Department responded to the scene.
