Influenza activity in Iowa remains low at this time. According to the Iowa Influenza Surveillance Network, there were three influenza-related hospitalizations across the state last week, each patient was over the age of 64. The most frequently identified virus type is influenza A.
People are reminded to cover their coughs, clean their hands frequently, and contain illness by staying home when sick. Lynn Fisher with Washington County Public Health shares the health care entities in the county are working together with a vaccinator alliance and exchange. With this consortium, all of the health care providers and pharmacies know who has which products to fight the flu, including the flu mist. The flu vaccine is still available.
