Highland Superintendent Chris Armstrong says he’s encouraged by a proposal from Governor Terry Branstad. Armstrong tells KCII News, he thinks it’s great that the governor has planned to extend the one cent sales tax earmarked for schools through 2049. He also thinks there may be areas which can be improved upon through debate but this is a good starting point.
Branstad unveiled last week a plan to pull funds from a one cent sales tax earmarked for schools. The plan calls for some of the funds from the tax to be put towards water quality programs through 2049. The first $10 million collected each year would go to school infrastructure with the rest being funneled to the water quality projects. Currently all of the funds are used for school infrastructure projects.
