Survey packets will be mailed randomly to selected residents of Kalona this week. The survey is the first step in deciding which projects the community will undertake as part of Iowa’s Living Roadways Community Visioning Program. Late last year, Kalona was selected to along with 10 other cities to develop a landscape plan that will illustrate the vision of the community. The program sponsored by the Iowa Department of Transportation and Trees Forever, integrates technical landscape planning and design techniques to create sustainable community improvements. The Kalona Visioning Committee asks if you receive a packet take a moment to complete the questionnaire and mail it back using the enclosed postage-paid envelope. Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says he expects the city to focus on two to three projects. One of the many project ideas is a veterans memorial.
